The new bike will be built as a tribute to the crew of "Marty the Rubble Maker" a B24 that was shot down off the coast of Orbetello, Italy May 12, 1944 in WW2. My grandfather was flight engineer/gunner on the plane.

The bike will have the nose art, tail markings, plane number and crew names on the fairings.

The new motor is based on a Buell XB9. I have reduced the bore size to 3.050". With the 3.125" stroke, it comes to 748cc. This keeps me in the 750cc pushrod class.

The frame will be built from scratch in my shop...

I will have to do some modifications to my frame jig to fit the strecthed out LSR frame.

I had to buy several sets of cylinders and heads to find the right combination. I also need spares to take to the track for replacement if damage is done...

I will use the stock Buell fuel injection and engine management system. I have the program and connectors that will allow me to re-map the engine management system as necessary. I will also have the Innovate data logging system to help with the adjustments.

I will get the engine running with a set of high compression pistons and dial in the operation of the EMS (engine management system). The bike will first be run in the APS/PG class to go against my BMW records. After that, I will install a turbo and run it in the APS/PBG class.

The pistons for the turbo application have been designed and completed. 8.1:1 compression ration for the blown application with "total seal" second rings. Two sets for extra parts.

The heads have been ported, milled and new larger stainless valves installed with triple racing springs and titanium retainers.

I just sent the heads out to be machined for dual plugs.

I have to change the stock Buell pushrod covers to adjustable pushrod tubes with the base adapters and adjustable pushrods. The rockers are S&S roller rockers.

Once I have the engine running well with the modified fuel injection program, I will install the turbo and use the maps to establish a base program for a stand-alone EMS. With this system, I will be able to control fuel and ignition based on boost pressure.
This is the engine management system that will allow me to do that...

Randy...I used to have some photos (I'll see if I can dig them up) of a memorial to a B24 crew that was shot down off the coast of Grado here in Italy.  If I remember right the plane went down about 3 miles off the coast and an archeology team spent some time on it several years back.  The memorial wasn't a big deal or anything...it was basically one of the the bent up props in a flower garden with a plaque.  But at least it was a memorial to the crew.

Again, I'll see what I can find as far as pictures.  They were on my cell phone but aren't any longer.  I sent them to a buddy because his father was a bombardier on a B17 flying out of southern Italy during the war and I thought he'd be interested.  He may still have them.  If I can find them, and if you're interested, I'll send them on to you.

Thanks Dave, Scott's safe for now :D He runs in the 1350 class and is going to move on to the Busa. I have 4 of the 8 Maxton records in the 750cc pushrod class. The remaining 4 are all "blown" class, so you can see where I am going with this build. If I fill up the 750cc class, I'll move up to 1000cc.

No joy on the pix Randy...sorry.  Grado isn't that far and I'm sure I'll be back up that way this summer.  I'll make sure I take the camera vice the cell phone this time.

I have been watching eBay for the bits and pieces for the turbo system. I have decided on the turbo I want to use, but it is backordered from Garrett. Not a problem since I don't need it to get the engine running. I did find a nice intercooler that should fit the bike well...

Since I decided to run the engine with high compression pistons and no turbo first, this will give me more time to get comfortable with the fuel and ignition mapping before I start adding boost from the turbo. The new pistons were designed and ordered and the heads were sent out for "dual plug machining".
I just got the heads back and they were done by NRHS very nicely...

The frame building jig is complete and the DOM tubing should be here this week. The frame construction should be pretty quick. What will take the most time will be the motor mounts, jackshaft mounts and various turbo and intercooler brackets....

Thanks for the comments guys.
Parts have been ordered and have arrived...DOM tubing, new 1 1/4" die for my bender, new swingarm pivot shaft and jackshaft parts. I have decided to start with a new 25mm swingarm shaft rather that try to modify the existing one. The shaft will be cut and threaded after the supports are welded.
This picture shows the new shaft installed in the support plates and laser aligned...

The down tubes have been bent, notched and tacked in place. Now it's time to install the jackshaft and finish the swingarm shaft. After that, the support plates will be welded in place and the motor mounts will be fabricated. Once the motor is in place, the top tubes will be fabricated.

One step at a time...

The laser idea is interesting. That swingarm is beastly. You've got some great fab skills there, my man.

Thanks man, the swingarm is from a GSXR600. It's very light aluminum and very strong.

The support plates have been drilled and cut for the jackshaft bearings...

They were slotted for chain tension adjustment.

I will make the center bearing support later.

Ahhhh. I knew those pillow blocks mounted inside somewhere, and wasn't really interested in a verbal explanation, so, I didn't ask. I knew if I waited, pics would clear the questions up. I'm not gonna ask how much of those heavy plates will exist after you've put them on a diet either.

The swingarm shaft has been cut and threaded and I have welded adjusting screws on the supports plates for the bearing blocks. The adjustment is on the back for the left side and on the front for the right side to match chain tension.

Bottom motor mount plates have been installed. The engine motor mounts will be bolted to these plates so the engine type can be easily changed later.
