Throttle cables and throttle assy are installed...

I decided to go with a narrower fairing due to the narrow engine. I talked with Kent at AirTech and we decided on this S&S LSR fairing and tail piece...

I won't run the main fairing until next year...

The throttle linkage and side stand have been fabricated...

The fuel tank is mounted low and behind the front wheel. I am going to run unfaired first, so I have made a tank protector to mount in the front of the tank...

The front, top motor mount has been fabricated. The fuel tank vent and tip-over valve go through the middle of the motor mount. The vent filter will be surrounded by the neck gussetts. This should put the vent in a good dead-air space...

I'm really into fabrication today, so I also finished my primary chain cover. This covers the short chain that runs from the transmission to the jackshaft...

So how many gazillions of miles per hour is this going to run?  ;D

Right now, I would just hope to take my existing records in the 750cc pushrod class. I would like to get 140 out of it in the NA configuration, but who knows. The intake tract isn't set up for optimum NA performance, it was designed for the turbo that will be added next year, we'll see.

140 out of a Buell motor is no small task. Do you run a standing distance or a rolling distance? Any idea where the bike will weigh in at?

I got 135 out of the 1970 750cc BMW, so I don't think 140 out of one is out of line since it's better aerodynamically. I don't know how this 1000cc XB9 will run in 748cc form...we will see. ???

At Maxton, it's a standing mile with the traps at the the end. At Bonneville, it average speed in the measured miles between 1 and 2, 2 and 3.

Don't know the weight yet, but that's not usually a problem in land speed racing.

The rules for steering stop angle at Maxton are different than the rules SCTA at Bonneville. I decided to make a stop block that can be rotated to meet one or the other by just loosening and turning it 90 degrees...

Thanks Dave,

The final mock-up is complete and now it's time to finish the build.

The wheels have been powdercoated with new bearings seals and tires installed...

I have a growing amount of fabricated, renewed, and repainted parts...

The frame is almost complete as final welding is done and gussets are added...

Thanks Dave.
Sometimes life and commitments outside the shop get in the way of a build. This has been the case since September and I have finally completed all the outside list. I finally got back to the build and finished off the frame construction. It has been primed and hung in the large shop for painting. We have been blessed with fantastic weather lately, so the painting should go quickly.

I also painted and baked the cylinders and heads with some high heat paint. I have been using Duplicolor high heat silver on my heads and cylinders for a long time now and it has proven itself when properly heat cured. Unfortunately, it looks so good, I'm going to have repaint the rest of the light colored parts of the engine...drat!

well do i know this to be true my friend.. i must agree on the dupli-color paint.. i have been hooked on the high heat ceramic coat type for engine stuff & anything that gets hot.. it really does work well & hold up.. good to see you back on the job.. i look forward to seeing more..

lookin good.....

question about those external breathers on the top rocker, less carryover and keeps it simpler?..... it seems like the engines like to breathe the oil out and the little flapper valve doesnt do much after prolonged exposure to oil

Thanks Dave.

Lightnin,
The top breathers are from the Buell XB rocker covers. Buell doesn't have the right side head breathers that go into air cleaner because the airbox is on the top. The heads I'm using are HD with the side breathers, so I will use both. The top will tie together to help equalize the heads and the side breathers will be piped into an oil catch can, as shown here...

very cool..... and a good way to vent the early evo heads by putting those rockers on a big twin...... (yes the sporty stuff bolts right up and gives a slightly different look)

Nice job so far.

It would never run again if I had to install 4 cams!

I like the wood stove lift kit! Run out of pipe?

Thanks Mike, the cams were easy, just line up all the marks...of course I haven't started it yet ;D

The 3/16 aluminum diamond plate sheet behind the stove will eventually turned into a pedestal for the stove. It's a real backsaver to have it up like that.

It's getting there Dave  ;D

Mechanical construction is complete. Now it's time to install the EFI computer and wire all the sensors and controls.

you have a rare talent  for coming up with the unique . you have long done things outside the box.. in fact creating a new box in most cases.. i've been one of your biggest fans , still am.. i'd like to have chopperforums help to sponsor you efforts in some way.. its a new thing to me , but pitching in to help those who are deserving is not.. i can have you a chopperforums patch made up to go on your leathers if you would so honor us.. stickers for your trailer &/or bike , .regardless of whether sponsorship is acceptable for you just know , that your talents have hit with me.. i am honored to know you & grateful you have allowed us all into your world to follow your work..

Wow guys, I'm honored by your well wishes and positive comments. Thankyou for the sponsorship consideration Dave, I really appreciate it. I'm currently working on an exclusive sponsorship with my local HD dealer, so that would preclude any other signs, stickers or patches but I do appreciate the consideration.
Wolf and Dave, you know that I have learned a lot from you both and I'm sure that will continue.

Thanks again,
Randy
