I was having problems with the temp sensor output into the ECM. I had to relocate the sensor when the second spark plug was installed in it's location. The stock Buell EFI system is known for running very rich until the rear head is up to operating temp. I had my XB12 in for service recently and the dealer told me not to ride the bike until it has reached operating temp, since this can cause the plugs to foul due to the rich condition. Sure enough, the A/F ratio was running low and my plugs were getting black. The sensor is a thermistor that changes resistance with temp rise. Rather than deal with the now inaccurate sensor output, I decided to overide it. An array of resistors was made to simulate operating temperature and the best one was picked and will be permanently installed in place of the sensor.

This pic shows the stock narrow band O2 sensor on the top and the wide band data logginng O2 sensor on the bottom. My next task is to add an LC-1 controller to the wide band sensor so I can have 2 analog outputs; one for the ECM and one for the data logger. After that is done, I can remove the top sensor and plug the exhaust pipe.

Hey Rchop! Love the build and can't wait to see some video of this thing. One suggestion for you about the sensor, because you have the logging capability and you will be using the microsquirt when you turbo it, instead of just picking the "closest" resistor, why not use a potentiometer? With a pot you can pick a suitable range and dial that thing right in to where you want it to give you the best performance. That are some that can be electrically controlled as well but I think that's just too much complexity for what you need. I'm just thinking it might give that little bit of an edge because depending on the range and adjustment per turn, you can get down to a 10th of a ohm in some cases.

I thought about that and decided on the simplest route because of the possibility of salt or moisture contaminating the pot. Also, once it get in the desired temp range, no changes are made by the ECM unless it gets too hot, so no other adjustments are necessary.

I'm just finishing up some things while I wait for it to get warm enough for a road test. One of the tough items was to protect the fuel pump at the bottom of the bike. I finally decided to put a brace bar alongside the pump and enclose the pump inside a stainless steel tube which is attached to the brace bar...

All the electronics are installed in an enclosed bay underneath the seat...

The tail section can now be installed...

You are right there SuzukiChopper we use them everyday for adjusting computer systems on our rigs. Randy if you want to play around with one I can send you a couple most are 10 turn.

I rolled the bike outside for a little test ride and immediately found an uncomfortale situation. I just put a rear, foot controlled brake on it. With the almost lay down position, having my right foot on the peg during low speed manuvering doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. After a morning of ebay shopping, all the front brake parts with the right hand actuated brake master cylinder or on their way here. The bike has been put back in the shop until the new front brakes are installed.

I'm just about ready for Maxton. A few details need to be finished up and then I will load the trailer. Some changes were made to the tail section that made it more comfortable and look better. The battery was moved behind the seat and the seat was moved forward...

So how did Maxton go? It looks like you were picking up speed as the run went on.
April
A/PF-750/4
94.08769
107.15678
109.85572
110.83727

June What were you doing?
A/PBF-750/4
96.82609
58.64947
81.45148
80.10488
81.00044

What are the two different classes you ran?

Are you heading to the salt in August/September? I ask as I have seen a few posts on the various Buell forums in regards to the salt runs coming up. The guy who tuned my Buell will be there with 3 bikes (tuning I assume).

Maxton went well in April. I was running NA to get a feel for the chassis, and my gear selections were great until I hit 5th gear. I originally purchased my gear sets for a turbo motor, so the bike in non turbo configuration couldn't pull 5th gear. As soon as I shifted to 5th I could no longer gain rpm. I think the speed increases were just the motor breaking in.

I installed a turbo in May and set out to Maxton in June intending to use the track as a dyno to get my set-up for Bonneville. My turbo shaft broke on the first run in June an I didn't know it until the next morning, so it ran worse and worse as the day went on.

I have installed a new, bigger turbo and it seems to work a lot better than the old one, but I had to cancel the Bonneville trip this year; I'll be going back to Maxton in Sept.

I see the difference, in the May picture the belly is not quite touching the frame back bone, in the June picture it is!  ;) ;D :P
