Trip to Bonneville
« on: September 30, 2008, 11:51:46 pm »

Tuesday started out with tech inspection and pit set-up and a lot of talking with old and new friends.

After dinner we went to a cell tower upon a mountian top and took photos of the surrounding areas, that is Bonneville in the distance.

The City of Wendover

Wednseday was the first day of racing and I was one of the first at the starting line.

A few of the many vehicles that were racing.........

This diesel went 186 mph

Monte the starter checking things over and getting ready to send me on my way.

My first pass............

Photo op

Changing out the sprocket

More vehicles

My crew chief this year

Suck it in.........

The moon in the middle of the day?

Sunrise at Bonneville is always amazing!!

After a few runs the bike needed some repairs.

My new best friend from Illinois discussing how to weld the cracked gas tank.

A few more cars and a cool two stroke bike.

Bonneville in the morning

Right before my best pass of 172.2 mph

Heading for home with visions of things to do to go faster next year.

Awesome! One of these days I'm gonna make my way there. In fact one of my goals is to build a Bonneville racer and see if I can't survive a couple of runs before I leave this life.

(dreams, without'em, what do we have to look forward to?)

I made 5 passes this year at Bonneville and after pass number 3 the bike needed plenty of wleding. I guess that is what I get for running a rigid mounted harley davidson in a rigid chassis.

Now get to building.......unless you want to buy this one........it is always for sale.

Buy? Buy....? no way, if I'm gonna risk mixing my blood with the salt I'll do it on my own build thank you... LOL Trust me, I retire from the military in a few more years and have every intention of spending that retirement check on said racer... The old lady already knows she'll have to feed and clothe me! LOL

To be honest it seems faster going a 90mph in my truck than it does going 172 on the bike. Reason being is that there is nothing out there to gauge your speed. Now here is the weird thing, you still get a huge adrenaline rush.....???? It's really addicting!!

For me it is a pretty good ride as my bike tracks straight and true.........got a race in three weeks at El Mirage, man I can't wait. 172 mph with a Sporty/Buell motor is still not realstic to me........

that's the draw, making something go fast that wasn't necessarly meant to go fast. ( that that 90mph isn't fast) but you get the point...

scott & randy are 2 guys i really have alot of respect for . both are honorable, decent men, with the true essence of bikes in their blood.. personally i am honored to have known them as long as i have.. randy is one of us old timers with a talent with bikes thats unsurpassed .. scott is a sincerely honorable young fella , with a passion for bikes that is rare today.. & a very talented man where bike building is concerned.. i am grateful they have graced our site with the results of their efforts & hard work.. i'm gonna work on some chopperforums decals , that are of a respectable size.. not real large , sorta on the small side.. if either of you guys want one for your race bikes , i for one would be totally honored ..

if you have a pdf or dwg that you can send me, i can get them made up very cheap..... one of the guys i help keep on the road down here works for a sign guy ( who also happens to play Santa for the club when we take Christmas to the Orphanage.... he's also a Sargeant in the local PD...not a bad guy to know )

anyways, they both want to keep me happy - each for their own reasons - so the higher graphic content is better for the printer

If you saw two guys named Hambone and Flippy, which one would you think liked dolphins the most? I'd say Flippy, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong, though. It's Hambone.
