This weekend I will be installing Dynamat.  I will see how that goes, and if all goes well I'll put in another layer of Dynaliner.  Right now it's like being in a 55 gal. drum and someone beating on the outside, but a hell of a lot of fun ;D

Here's a shot of my bud's '48 Chev 1 1/2 ton, barn fresh, original paint, bought from the original owner. He's about 80 or 90, and still a good shit. After some rewiring & brakes, the truck runs good. everything original, rare for rusty winter logged Canada.
I got to drive the truck. Double-clutch up & down every gear, slowww sloww, but FUN!
Even the OL's like takin' it out for a cruise, on their own.

Dave, took to long to find this one.  I have question for ya.  Do you know or have you ever seen a T-19 hooked up to a flathead?
Thanks, Marty

That is one sweet truck!!

I've always wanted a 48-52 Ford F1. Would rather have one of them than a 56 Custom Cab. Don't know why. Guess they just seem like classier ride (to me) and you don't see as many of 'em...

I talked to a painter this week who said he blended a T5 five speed into his '49 with original flattie. He said it didn't take long to fab up the fork and drill the bolt pattern in the bell housing, only a few hours... no real details, 'cause we were both on the wobbly side....

The problem with the T5 is the shifter location and no speedO gear.  The shifter would almost come up threw my bench seat.  So I think a T19 or mid to late 60-70s Ford tranny is the ticket.  Just have to find someone who's done it before.

Thanks All for the high 5.

Lost my mind over the holliday, I decided to build a French flathead motor with some of the great old manufactures of heads and intake.  Motor will displace about 284 ci. putting out around 200hp.  I will post pic's as the build progresses.  Oh, Happy New Year to all.

ooh yeah! I loves them old flatties with triple dose of Strombergs on top. and don't they sound so NICE. Didjya sort out the toplader transplant? Now get your credit card out & pop some period coker tires with plain rims, chrome trim rings, and small hubcaps on her....

How is the project coming along?

Love the look of a Flathead. ;D

How do they run? Were/are they powerful motors?

Well the project is at a stand still.  The Carrier dropped the engine and I am awaiting the Carriers freight inspector.  Should be here tomorrow afternoon, but they still have 120 days to decide what they are going to do after the inspection.
Well my current flathead runs pretty smooth, but it's only 100 hp.  The new one puts out twice that and a bit more in torque.

After 55-70 degree temps around here we now have a foot of snow on the ground and still coming down.  Well so much for the weather report.

Up-date:

The inspector came by on Monday and was willing and open to taking pictures of everything including looking at my picture on high resolution monitor that I had taken and I also emailed them copies.  This AM I received a copy of the inspection report and to me, it looks favorable.  I also received a call from the third party FreightQuote.com and they seem to be on top of things and putting pressure on Estes Freight to keep things moving.

I will continue to post progress up-dates as thing move along and thanks for everyone's support and insight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First I want to say thanks for everyone's interest, observations, experience and comments. I've learn a lot from this experience. The first, never except a damaged container, insure it for more than it's actual value and if your using a freight company (hopefully not ESTES) pack it like you know there going to drop it.
I thought it was pretty stand up of Mike Herman at H&H to request the engine be returned for repairs. I know once the engine left my garage it's fate would be completely in the hands of Mike. He is the one dealing with the freight broker and Estes, all I've done is supply him and the inspector with a time line of events and the picture evidence. Oh and a little over $13,200.
Mike has assured me the engine will be here this Wednesday. I'll post pictures of it's return including the shipping company removing it from the truck. Again thanks to everyone.
