HD motor off a VW trannie
« on: November 20, 2011, 01:20:25 pm »

Awhile back Bibbs and me were going to build him a trike with the HD motor hanging off the back of a VW trannie[4 speed].
Well, had a guy that heard about it near me somewhere, and he brought his trike with such an animal on it, well sort of, what a mess it was.
He had made an adapter to hok up his panhead motor to the vw trannie, well ,I have learned alot from what he did, and glad too, Bibbs would have been one pissed off little fucker, grinn.
He made the adapter and all, but the problem was that the1st apapter plater to the motor was boltd up using the 3 bolts holes off the panhead motor[wrong!!!!!!!] the metal on the motor is old and fatiqued so it pulled the bolts out of the motor and busted the cases to shit, also when his pressed in the clutch on the vw trannie, it was pushing on the motor crank and screwed up the motor bearing and another bearing in the adapter from pushing pressure,
Well, lesson learned, found out if is was using a vw full automatic trannie, it would have worked, So now the owner has a pile of shit and going to buy a kit from Rewaco and try it again, but without my help, I told him I wanted no part of it, just don't want to get blamed for it. if something goes wrong.
Bibbs!!! Hope you are reading this, grinn.

Our Brother Fat Mike said the same thing....'bout the clutch slammin up agin the left side case......Oh well, thank gawd I didnt go that route....good for you Brother CW....we didnt.
Aint nuffin...................if ever there comes a day that I get a notion ta bild a VW trans axel trike.....My best bet is to stick with the old tried and true set-up like you bin doin...motor in the rear, trans axel up front...Knock the whole shoot'n match out for 'bout 5-6 grand.
