Anodizing!
« on: October 12, 2011, 08:49:19 pm »

Just wanted to let you guys know, I have an anodizing service available to you all now! Been doing this for about 5 years . I will take real good care of all of the members here at Chopper Forums if you need any color on your aluminum partsl. I have 13 colors online and available at the moment.

Violet, Royal Blue, Fast Blue (Russel fitting blue), Deep Red, Orange, Gold, Flourescent Yellow, Yellow, Green, Olive Drab, Grey,
Black, Bronze!

I can do variations on the colors (different shades), color matching (to your color chip), and so on. I can do fades from one color to another or two, splash and acid wash effects. Working on doing masked grafics in the anodizing here in the near future also, lots of possibilities available.

If your interested in having something done drop me a PM!

Well Dave,  at it's maximum thickness it add's 1mil thickness to the surface of the part, the process is alot like chrome plating. But the only material that can be anodized is aluminum. The part is submersed in a bath of sulfuric acid and water and an electrical current is passed thru the part and solution for a specific amount of time. That builds a honeycomb like layer in the surface of the part. That honeycomb structure is what then holds the dye, it is then sealed by boiling for a specific amount of time in a chemical which seals the dye into the part. When done correctly it is as hard if not harder than powdercoat as far as wear and chipping, because you are not adding a color on top of the part, it is actually in the part, if you follow me. Most military or mil-spec parts are anodized for a reason, durability! (Like any other process, chrome plating, or powdercoat it can be worn thru eventually with enough surface abrasion.) Plus it has the added avantage that I can be very creative and do any kind of color, effect, different surface treatment (ie, polished, bead blasted, brushed) to change the final finish and sheen of the part, plus before sealing, I am able to do acidwash's, splash effect's, or fade's, custom colors, multiple colors, or what ever I can dream up with the dye's. Hope that helps Dave,

Haven't tested it in the real world but they say above 180 degrees farenheit it may begin to show some fine cracking. But come to think of it I have tested it, stud girdles, and rocker arms I know get hotter than that. And they have the same anodizing, and haven't had any problems. Heck the Russel and Aeroquip fuel fittings I've done probably get that hot at the carb under the hood of a car.
