Longevity Multipurpose review
« on: February 07, 2010, 12:26:00 am »

Starting up a custom chopper job with a 250cc Honda motor that I got brand new from a guy on Craigslist. Right off the bat, my old Lincoln TIG welder takes a crap on me! Want to get this project going without putting the money into another expensive TIG welder from miller or lincoln. Doing some research, and came across a company called Longevity welding. anyone ever heard of them? They have some really nice AC/DC tig welders, with built in AC/DC plasma cutters, for very good prices. These machine only cost a fraction of what a miller or lincoln would cost. let me know what you guys think. Im anxious to pull the trigger in order to get the project going, but looking for feedback on the company first. thanks.

Here is the machine that I am looking at:

i know rhere are alot of brand options out there.. some good some not.. i know some of the small tig machines arent strong enough to weld something like a frame where structural integrity is important.. smal thinner metal jobs are more suited to alot of these machines.. i dont know the numbers they are rated by.. i hope someone with more knowledge of them chimes in.. from best i can tell from the link it seems good, but i know guys that have gotten new millers for just a few hundred more.. they just had to shop ..

Thanks for the feed back. You can trust me when I say I shopped around! If I could have found a brand new miller with the sames specs and warranty as this machine for even a grand more than this one, I might have jumped on it. The truth is, if you were to get this kind of machine from miller, You would pay some where in the 6-7 thousand dollar range, and would have gotten a 3 year warranty with it instead of the 5 year that longevity offers. I pulled the trigger on the longevity machine after extensive research. The machine has 3 functions: TIG, Stick and plasma. It can be switched from AC to DC mode in any function including plasma! Wow! does it cut clean on aluminum in AC mode! here are the machines specs off the website.

Specifications:

General Specifications:
Genuine Infineon IGBT based electronics
Operating Voltage: 220/230/240 VAC 50/60Hz Input
Open Circuit Voltage: 60-80V
60% Duty Cycle @ Rated Amperages
Weight: 68 lbs
Thermal Overload Protection with Large Size Cooling Fan
Size: 17L x 8W x 11.5H inches

20-50AMP Plasma Cutting Specifications @ 65psi:
3" Per minute @ 3/4  " Steel (Severance Cut )
7" Per minute @ 3/4" Thick Steel
17" Per minute @ 1/2 Thick Steel Minimum requirement for air compressor: (4.0 CFM)
Aluminum Cut Up to 1/2" in AC plasma cutting!

5-200AMP AC/DC TIG Features:
Up Slope, Down Slop Control: 0-10 Seconds
Post Flow Control: 0-25 Seconds
Base Current Control: 5-250 Amps
Peak Pulse Current Control: 5- 250 Amps
Pulse Frequency Control: .5-25 Hz
Pulse Width Control: 10%-90%
AC Frequency Control: 20-100 Hz
AC Balance Control: 30-70% (for Aluminum)
Aluminum Weld Up to 1/2"

20-160AMP Stick Features:
Arc Force Controls the amperage from 20-160AMP

as soon as I start working on the frame, I will post some pics of the job this machine does on it. Test runs with the machine have been awesome so far! 200amp TIG is more than enough for the frame job, or anything else I will be working on for that matter.

Does it have a foot control or is it scratch start? I saw a similar one used, for a very cheap price and passed on it. No foot control.

If you saw two guys named Hambone and Flippy, which one would you think liked dolphins the most? I'd say Flippy, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong, though. It's Hambone.
