Some pipes I made..
« on: April 04, 2009, 09:19:19 am »

Guy I know bought an XS650 recently and it was loud enough to make your ears bleed.

Trouble was it had skinny, short pipes wth no baffling and no volume in the pipe for the gas to expand into.

Since the guy liked the look of them, but needed ot quieter, I made these.

Fornt pipe iis a 180 bend I made in some 1 1/2" 16gauge ERW, the "fat" part is some 3" 16gauge ERW, and the offset cones are hand cut and shaped from 16 gauge sheet .

There's perf tube baffles in them, with an obstruction half way along the perf to force the gas out into the 3" tube, from where it has to find its way back into the perf to make an exit. Pete says it works great, he's running the bike up this afternoo so I'll get to hear it.

Yep, shut it up to the point where it sounded like a motorcycle and yet your ears didn't bleed anymore... :)

It also ran like a sack of shit.  ::)

So it was off to see the dyno man yesterday.

Don't think so. Previous pipes were sooty inside, just it was so loud the guy wouldn't ride it far enough to warm it up.
