Yep.

It's a real early one with a four speed kicker. Got the frame with the fabricated swing arm plates not the forged ones and the fabricated swing arm.

Some debate over whether the chain final is what it would have had from the factory, or if it would have had a belt  to start with.

it would have had the chain... as well, those axle adjusters are the original style.... they didnt make too many of those, and even less survived the years
good score

They didn't have a kicker very long. Did they?

First year, maybe two?

How much is too much, I know Harleys here in Canada are WAYYYY more than they are in the US, just wondering if it's just as krazy in the kingdom of UK. I suppose they are still very high valued there.

No problem if you don't like to "kiss & tell", though, I hate to tell people how much I overpaid, cause then everybody tells me about the deal they could have got me....

She looks like a nice bike, I'd be proud to have that one slumped up in MY shop, for sure!

£5500.

About $8800.  :o

But.

Next year I'm 50. And all the money in the world isn't going to buy me another summer to ride a bike in where I'm NOT 50...

Guy was asking £6000, I opened the bidding at £4500.

Cool scoot. Be very hard-pressed to find a bike like that, around here (Kamloops BC Can.), for 8.8K.

Congrat's on the new ride!

I am seeing (well think I'm seeing) a price drop on the coast. Especially in the radical, built/kit, choppers niche. Sure are a lot more ladies, at the controls, about. Seeing lots of Victory's too. New trend here (and I like it) is older Jap bikes -- blacked out, bob'd, and in the wind.

Safe travels...

PS: Riding at 50 ain't so bad. I just need a bigger set of bags -- Depends, fibre bars, Viagra, nose hair trimmer, Prep' H, etc...

late model 2002 or so similar bikes here , can be had for 8500.00 to about 11,000.00 .. it does seem the older bikes hold a better value for age versus model.. the bike looks good.. i'd say that price for where you live is not a bad deal at all.. its all in what you want.. i'm sure you have some type plans for it.. from my experience with these early model evo.'s there are some things you'll find you will want to change.. nothing bad.. just part of the gig.. great score brother..

There are Twinky Softails out there for less money. Seen them advertised as low as £2500. Mostly in London, I'm guessing mostly by RUBs who figure it's 6. 7, years old, it ain't going to be worth much.

But then there are Yamaha Wild stars out the for less money too, and they aren't a proper Harley either. :)

Back in 84, I liked these. Didn't have a rubber mounted motor, didn't have belt drive, did have a kick start, seemed to at the time it was a "proper" Harley in amongst all the rubber mounted, kick only, sanitised for mass consumption, stuff that was coming out.

Then middle age spread set in right away, Softails got softer, and I went off them....

Then I got middle aged spread and they started to look attractive again :)

It's now got drag bars. I bent a set up out of 36" of 1" tube, drilled them for the wiring and knurled the barts (not necessarily in that oreder...). Should have 10 feet of 1" OD 0.120" wall tube waiting for me up the shop, bars on a stick :)

Thing is these are a little too wide, so I'm going to make some narrower ones in steel and try those out first. I don't seem to have much in the way of risers kicking around the shop, which is a bitch. I think I'd like some more rise and a little pull back with the drag bars. Or I'd try a larger version of the "Superbike" bend we make with some really low risers. But no taking the damn bike apart until the summer ends!!!!!!  :)

Thanks Dave.

Got hold of some 1" OD 3mm wall (really, not 1/8". 3mm) 304 stainless tube, and copied the third incarnation of the drag bars from steel to stainless.

That seems to be working for now, it's just a little "reachy", but I think ought to put some decent miles on it in one hit before I decide about that.

Most of the trips I do on it are 6 or 7 miles axcross town from one or other abode to the workshop. But I'm always hauling a bag full of crap around with me, and the bag's pretty crappy. Hard to rell whether I need some pull back in the risers, or I need to get a decent fucking rucksack!!! :)

Plus I got a bloody great chain slung across my shoulder too.

This is where I'm currently at with the bars. Cables need replacing once I'm sure I'm keeping them. :)

OK. Pretty happy with the bars so far.

Not really happy about the color.

There's something about it that says "nail polish".

So, since it was pissing down with rain today, I "invested" in some black rattle cans....

yes.. the black is better.. the blue werent bad.. but you cant beat black..  i got some factory 4.5 inch roll back risers if that would help you with the reach thing.. i did some drag bars with 35 degree bends once & added a little overall length to compensate for the extra bend.. they worked nicely & looked great.. if you got the stainless tube .. that may be a thought..

I did think about putting something around a 90 bend between the risers, then bending the "legs" of the "V" that made outwards to more like the sweep back on the drag bars.

Problem with that it you can't rotate the bars to get your wrists cocked just so.

Without a bag on my back, and/or the frigging great anchor chain and lock slung over my shoulder, it feels OK round town.

4.5 inch roll back risers. That's 4.5 inches high,  and the last bit of 'em tips back right? You tempt me. I think I'd like the way that looked. But, probably cheaper for me to go out and buy some than ship 'em across the pond....   :)

possibly may be cheaper than shipping .. they are 4.5 in. high & roll back arounf 2 in. they radius the dash on soft tail nicelty.. but often arent as tall as some guys want.. i have used the coned extenders on them to get an extra 1 1/2 in. of height.. makes a nice look too, but the extenders aint cheap.. however if a guy had machinist skills it would be no issue..
