if its that cold you will want to use a car battery & jumper cables.. do not use a running car to help jump it off.. just the battery.. it can be in a vehicle just dont crank it while jumping the bike.. an extra boost may be needed to fire here off since the motor is new & tight.. make sure the battery is hot on the bike.. that battery should still be good , but if its a prob. get with me, i'll direct you to one that will fit in the bike right.. a stock battery wont fit..

Be careful with the break in period.... Do not do what the tools on TV do and romp on the throttle as soon as they fire it up....

It's good to start it up and let it run fast idle (1200 - 1500) for about a minute and shut off to cool for about 20 minutes. Otherwise, if you're not going to ride it, don't start it! The first 25 miles or so are the most important. Go ride it keeping under 2500-2800 rpms and either be accelerating or on a hard decel. Steady speed/rpms is a no-no. As it warms, make the accel with more throttle but under 1/2 for sure. Keep that up for 25- 50 miles then park it and drop the oil immediately. Change that out and then go ride (whenever) avoiding steady speeds, lugging or sitting in traffic but wind it on up to about 3600 once in a while and again, avoid steady speed/throttle running all you can. After 125 - 250 you shouldn't notice much oil loss but you can expect up to 1/2 quart up to that point and don't worry about it. Change the oil again after about 500 miles and enjoy your new engine
and change the oil again at 1,000 miles....then you can start opening her up past 1/2 throttle.....  at 1,500 i start riding her like i normally would.... and change the oil again at 2,000 miles.... then it's regular changes at 2,500 - 3,000 from there out

Good advice Lightnin, just picked up the exhaust nuts today so the pipes are going on today. Decided to Blue Job the pipes, got rid of most the yellow & blue, but not all. Oh well, unless somebody has advice to get it all out.

It's supposed to be pretty nice this weekend, so I may wait to start it mid-day when it's warmer. Video to be coming soon :)

All right, started first time — what a feeling that was wow. Now I just can't keep it running, so I'm pretty sure the carb is off.

I took the video, well my son did.

Sumthin feul related ....thats fer certain. Is the feul tank vented?....try 'er with the cap off(very carefully so ya dont spill no feul),what's up with the air cleaner?
How bout the low speed adjustment on the carb?....what about the idle adjustment?....................Process of elimination...............The manifold tight?......to the heads?............from the Carb to the intake?

Called wolf today about it, tried to call ya Dave but couldn't get ya.

So far, Wolf had me re-check the timing and it was off just a bit, re-set her to where the light just turns off, it was off just a smudge. So right now, it fires up stays steady around 950-1100 for about a minute and then jumps to 3000 + and then sputs pops and jumps down to about 500 then dies.

Wolf suggested checking the float goal on the carb, so I'm going to check that. The settings are set to this guide from S&S so I'm not sure yet if its these settings. http://www.sscycle.com/carbquickguide/

It's almost like I run out of gas or something.

I'll give that a try Bibs with the cap off, air cleaner is clean thought about taking that off just to make sure but am afraid that may fuck up the final result when I put it back on. I'll double check the manifold too that's a good idea.

I've pissed off all my neighbors so I'm loving this shit - fuck em

its not the carb. nor the gas cap.. the tank is vented, not the cap .. find the hose that vents the tank.. blow thru it to make sure its clear .. then pull the fuel hose off the carb.. turn the fuel valve on.. it fuel pours out fast its good.. if it trickles out slowly the valves fucked.. if you dropped the float bowl & lost the lil' blue o-ring , theres the prob.

its possible you covered the carbs. vent hole with the air cleaner gasket .. check the vent & fuel flow as i said.. call me today.. my apologies, my ph. was turned down all week end & i left it in my hunting pants pocket after i changed close .. dah !! forget timing it starts so thats not an issue , check the enrichener.. you are turning it back down after start up right ??  find a spare coil & try it.. dont ask why.. just trust me .. & no wolf there is no accurate test for the coil.. so forget testing it..

Haven't messed with the carb or dropped the float. Did check the vent hose on the tank - no issues there. I'll check the fuel hose after work and let you know what happens there. Thanks Dave!

I'll call ya when I get home around 4 MTN. As far as enricher yep, turning it down after start up, wish I had a spare coil, is it worth buying and overnighting?

Thanks Bro

This is a brand new TIGHT engine.... as it heats up, it's gonna get tighter....
Do not just keep starting it on the kickstand.... you need to get oil moving through the engine...even if you have the HVHP S&S oil pump, you are only getting a little bit of circulation at idle....
Have you gotten any wind on this bike yet?
When you mentioned that you have 1/2 carbon on the plugs, do you mean the front is carboned and the rear is not? or half of each plug is carboned up? In either case it could be nothing more than the enrichener on at low rev's

I was going to spin that tire a bit more to rotate the oil in more thoroughly, but no not yet. Went to but died right away and walked it back to the garage.

Looking down at the top of the plug, 1/2 is black, the other is white. So only one side of the plug is black, make sense? Thanks Lightnin

o.k. the dead mans hand is up & roaring.. as per my suspicions it was a minor glitch..after going over a coupla simple tests we found,  the plugs were simply fuel wet from following the s&s procedure for cranking the bike..a commonly overlooked issue..  we went over, THE PROPER , crank up methods & all is well.. the instructions as per manufacturer of parts isnt alway THE BEST  way to go.. the oil flows to the pump on gravity , so the pump is full as soon as oil is added to the tank & each time you hit the button oil is in fact circulated , so oiling aint an issue.. josh made the minor adjustments to the warmed up motor & she's a cookin now.. we discussed use of the enrichener & multiple start ups on the kickstand.. we discussed oil changes & break in.. i think josh has done a great job considering he is new to all of this.. i'm very pleased that josh has adapted so well & i'm happy the bike is up & running & now has a great new home as well as an owner that appreciates it & will care for it well.. not to mention i made a new friend , who i bonded with easily.. i'm not the guy who keeps running bro;s , i'm sort of a loner.. honestly wolf & slick are the only guys i have closely bonded & rode with in many yrs.. after yrs of the outlaw life they reaffirmed that i could believe in people & that there was those i could trust in.. at the time it was a hard concept for me to accept.. i have made many friends via these forums, that i am grateful for .. hopefully we can all meet some day in person.. NOW GO GIVE HER HELL JOSH..

It's cool when people actually listen to advice as opposed to hearing it and doing what they want to anyways.....
Josh, break her in right and be safe out there....
