This one might be more what you're looking for.  Had to resize it 3 times to get it to fit.  Hope it comes out okay ;D

thats the way a sporty should look.. rigid frames are nice, but a good looking shock bike is hard to beat.. they are often difficult to get them to look how you want though.. they arent as easily tranformed as a big twin.. looks like you met & defeated the challenge though.. nice.. i recently used a dakota digital speedo , that puzzled got for me, on a dyna i did up.. talk about a clean set up.. easy to install, simple to program for the accurate speed calibration.. ithad all the indicator lights in it for turn signals, nuetral light, hi-beam & oil .. just like stock.. but it sure cleaned the bike up.. alot.. one would look great on this bike.. they have a version with no frills, just the speedo/odometer .. i'm thinking on that one on the new bike i'm building..

On mine, the indicator lights are on the headlight housing...that's cool with me.  I really want to replace the speedo.  You can't see it in the pictures, but theres a mini-tach mounted below the speedo (between the the risers).  I really want to run a mini speedo to clean up the bars a bit.

I looked at an internal throttle and a twist clutch, but the guys who help me out with the major work on my bike didn't recommend either.  They say that that kinda stuff is for "show bikes" and I do run mine pretty hard...so I decided against both.

Anyway, yep I will change out the speedo soon.  My next big project is a Baker 6 speed.  I'm still waiting for the prices to come down before I bite on one of them though.

Dave,

Went to the shop yesterday and ordered a mini-speedo.  I'm going to mount it below the bars side-by-side with the tach.  We're going to cut up the current mount and use it as a "clamp" to hold the speedo/tach on the bars.  Then on the top portion of the mount, we're going to drill holes and mount all of the indicator lights (taking them off the headlight housing).  I'm also going to get a headlight housing that's a couple of inches longer.  It'll be clean with no holes for the indicator lights.  Sholud clean up the front end pretty good.

The speedo is in but because of a mix up in what I thought I said, the shop didn't order a headlight bucket for me.  No problem, me doing it on line is cheaper.  I just ordered a Headwinds Concourse Rocket Smooth bucket and a sealed beam halogen 60/55 watt light.  Now I can move my indicator lights up to the speedo/tach bracket and have a bit more room inside the light bucket for all of the connections that get stuffed in there.

Thanks...I looked at their site based on your recommendations on CW but didn't see any info on the clutch.  I may try to contact them and see what they have for Sporties (if it would be any different than the one for a BT).  I want to do this, but now I'll need to wait on funds and I really want to be sure that they are reliable (particularly the clutch).

Thanks again.

if i recall, the clutch is just the reverse of the throttle, which makes sense that you would have to roll if forward to get it to work..... if you roll back, you'd be slippin out of it all day long

Went up to the shop this afternoon to drop off the Headwinds headlight bucket.  Really looks sharp.  I was a bit put out when I got it and saw that its made in Taiwan.   ???   Oh well, you learn as you go.  The speedo and tach are mounted and instead of hooking up the indicator lights from the original bucket, we're going to use a 3 light LED set up.  It is a bit smaller and all I want it for is to keep from having any legal issues (like I don't already).   :-X  I'll get some pics by the end of the week and post them up...the bars are really cleaned up now and I'm thinking that longer, sleeker headlight is gonna rock!!   8)

It's a 240.  I like it a lot, but if I had to do it all over again, I'da prolly done 180 or 200.

Something doesn't sound right as Headwinds are Made In The USA. It sounds like a Tradewinds made by Headwinds. My understanding is that Tradewinds is a direct knockoff of their premier product made by them. (that seems like a logical way to combat knockoffs of your products, make your own!)

Headwinds in located within a few of blocks from my house. I don't know how much in-house manufacturing they actually do. Its not a real big building...

Just got off the website that I ordered it from.  The part that lines up with the part number which I ordered is a Headwinds Rocket Smooth Concourse.

Went up to the shop and picked up the bike this afternoon.  This is the first day that it hasn't rained hard in at least a week.  The rivers are really swollen and a couple have come out of the banks here in the last few hours.  Lots of water flowing, I hope we have a bit of a break so the rivers can go back down some.

Anyway, here's some pictures...

Thanks man...

To tell you the truth, there isn't much left on the bike that's either original or unmolested.  Really the only things I can think of are the oil bag, the front fender, and the cases.

One of my favourite features are the pipes. I like the way they are shaped. 2-1 must make that little bitch scream. There's tons of cool detail on it, the more i look. Really Nice bike.

Well they help those NRHS Stage 3 heads being pushed by SE 575 cams to breath a bit.   ;D  She's also got CP racing pistons and now displaces 1250cc.  Definitely in the 100hp / 100 ft# range as she sits.  Gotta get her to a dyno this winter.

There's some serious jack rolled up into that Sporty...more than I'd like to admit.  She's my first HD and I started out like many with the "cool factor" which was money wasted and eventually went the way of the scrap heap.  :-[  I got the performance bug later on and other than a few add ons here and there, it is where I concentrate now.  She's shown her fair share of big twins that 240 rear tire.  :o :o

I know better than to mess with a sporty that don't sound stock. I've seen these puppies in action, but never rode one with anything more than bolt ons.
