trike tranny issues
« on: October 31, 2011, 01:12:10 pm »

Welp.....I did it good this time!! ::)
I posted a thread about a slap shifter 'cause my left hand is goin south on me....Nerve damage due to issues with my cervical spine,Long story.
At any rate...I was out in the shop last nite...burnin the midnite oil, decided to put on the lock up clutch made by EFM>>http://www.efmautoclutch.com/

Well.............she works..............TOO GOOD!!!!................it cost me 1rst and possibly 2nd gear,I goes ta put 'er in gear....nothin happens :(
These pressure plates work on centrifugal force and when they hook up...THEY HOOK UP!!!!
I wanted more lock up with it so I used Carbide balls for 1/4th of the total balls in the unit.
I fired up the trike and did a few power pulls in the garage....spun both tires on the concrete floor by Blippin the throttle.....I did that about 4 times and the 6 speed ultima trans let loose on me.
I've never had issues with ultima trans....I've had 3-4 of 'em over the years.....this one took a shit.
Guess I'll have to go with something Heavy duty.............any suggestions?

I called Allan Sputhe out there in Californicate....spoke to him a good while....he said The stock Harley 5 speed trans is perhaps the most bullet proof tranny on the market!!!!!...........................who'd a thunk it!!! :o
mebe thats the route I oughta go!!

Get the Ultima Trans apart first. It may be something simple.

Welp.....taday I got the trike up off'n the ground on my Bike lift that I made 'bout 9 or 12 years ago.....Man what a pain in thee balls gittin that sumbitch up on there.
she's a perty cool set up......I'll take a picture or 3 wed. or thursday show yall my perty lift!!!!

Fat mike and CW'id be right proud of me!!! ;D

Thursday....Major surgery commences on rippin the defunct trans out of the beast.....and puttin a fresh re-build Factory 5 speed in er.
I like the Idea of the 3.24-1 1rst gear and no 6th gear!!!
I might cud even bild me a slap shifter for 'er!!!!

I ordered a SPUTHE front pulley with rubber shock absorption rubber in 'er......................Allan(sputhe) tells me it'll provide some "give" in the primary drive....Kinda like a stock set up on most Harley motorsickels
...AND it'll absorb some of the vibration that Stroker produces 'cause the sumbitch'll damn near make your balls go numb with that 4 5/8" stroke goin on!!

What fucked up was my puttin that lock up clutch in....actually just the centrifugal pressure plate that EFM sells.............They work OK and really do a hell of a job transfering power to the back wheel(s)
so...In my infinite wisdom...I decided to do a few launchs on the garage floor...spinnin both of them big ass car tires  while I was sittin on 'er......the torque over loaded the trans and thats when 1rst gear blew!! ;)
