Evo Bottom end re-build
« on: January 12, 2010, 05:51:25 pm »

ok, so here's what's goin on:

i pulled a stud on the front a year or so ago....heli-coiled it and it lasted another 35,000 miles.... well, i know the engine has 100,000 miles on her, so as opposed to going with doing inserts and all that i have a right side case coming from Big Jim since i would need to re-do the bottom end anyways

i haven't split the bottom end before, and want to walk through it nice and easy....the machinist is on line to do the hard stuff: line boring and new bearings, etc

i"ve got a set from an indy shop here where i get most of my parts.... they call them used and are ready to toss them out.... i call them pre-loved and MINE! they are clean with only minor scratches on the sides, seem to be the 9.5 compression..... when i get ready to tear her down i'm hopin that i can find a set of cylinders and set those up to the pistons with new rings and tear her down and build her up in one day.... either that or i have no wheels until they are honed....
this bike is my only transportation, and it's been almost 5 years since i've had a car.... it's getting really old, so i think i will be getting a car this "winter" ..... it'd be nice to not have to dress up for a wet ride for a while

and since forever ago, Dave was asking for pics of my bike...here we go.... '96 softail frame with a 2oo wide tire in the rear(which i'm thinking of changing back to a 140/150 in a stock swingarm) with a 19" narrow glide front wheel and a '72 shovel tree/nacelle and a '67 King of the Road batwing.... no speedo or swtiches on the bars..... just a key and a pushbutton on the starter.....

Yeah, only minor scratches on the sides.... i will most likely chuck 'em into their lathe and give them a polish.... then have the cylinders set to them ....
having access to their shop on off hours is very nice.... and well appreciated

true, but if i'm gonna give it an even polish, making sure it's completely true is the best way to do it..... and yes, it's overkill but it keeps me busy and out of trouble
